Math Assessment

The Mathematics section of the Compass test is adaptive. The test responds to feedback it receives from the student and finds the appropriate level of math for the student. If a student answers questions correctly they are given more difficult items. If the students begins to answer questions incorrectly, the computer will generate less difficult items until the appropriate level is reached.

The range of skills measured by the Mathematics section of Compass ranges from pre-algebra through college algebra. Following is a breakdown of the kinds of mathematics items assessed by Compass.

The link below is intended to help you get ready for the Math assessment test. When you eventually take the assessment, it is important that you take it seriously and are adequately prepared, and do the very best that you can. You are allowed to take the assessment only once, unless you are able to provide written evidence that would justify a retest.

Do not take the placement test if you are ill prepared, not feeling well or there is any reason that your performance will not be your best.
